Playful book shows importance of relationships between young people, elders

Cindy R. Juckette uses her grandfather and her son’s connection as a muse for her children’s book “Pockets”

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – The fun-loving story of “Pockets” (ISBN 1470014211) by Cindy R. Juckette features the bond between a grandparent and grandchild and the memories, stories and special moments they share together. Juckette explores the relationship between the elderly and the young in a playful and happy way that both children and parents can enjoy.

“Pockets” tells the story of a boy named Colton and the fun times he shares with his great-grandfather. The two have a special bond through clothes, activities and the genuine happiness they feel while spending time together. When Colton is left without any pockets to stash away the treasures he finds with his great-grandfather, they come up with a solution to make everyone happy.

Juckette says the inspiration for “Pockets” came from the relationship her grandfather and her son shared for many years. She enjoyed seeing the two spend time together while her son was growing up and wanted to share that with other parents who have experienced that joy. The author hopes her book will inspire parents and children to appreciate their differences in age and the special relationships formed between grandparents and their grandchildren.

“I wanted to write something that will have parents and children thinking about the simpler times and their own memories of their loved ones,” Juckette says. “Sometimes we all get so wrapped up in work and other responsibilities that we don’t take the time to just talk and I’m hoping ‘Pockets’ will take us back to that.”
